Walking

A pathway through some trees looking out to the River Don in Sheffield

Me and my wife are very fond of walking. Since moving to London we’ve walked all over the city. We started walking the London LOOP and the Capital Ring Walk. In doing this we’ve seen parts of the city that we would have otherwise never seen.

Yesterday we took a trip to Sheffield and stumbled across the Five Weirs Walk, which is a 5 mile walk around the River Don. It was nice to see a lot of the old architecture of the mills and factories.

Walking is said to have multiple health benefits. I’d say that the physical benefits are fairly obvious as exercise in general is good for you. The thing that I benefit most from is the effect it can have on your mental health.

I’ve found walking with no purpose, i.e. not walking to work or to run errands, allows your mind to wander freely and just experience what is around you. This is especially the case when walking among trees and fields.

This post is part of a series of posts in which I write and publish a blog post every day throughout November 2021. There are no constraints on the project and the posts don’t neccissarliy have any connection to each other.

See all of the posts in the 30 days of writing project.
