The slow web is a bad place
Published on 06 November 2021
For the past couple of weeks I’ve had problems with the reliability of my internet connection. There have been times when I’m only getting 1-2 Mbps. At these speeds the modern web is almost unusable.
When my speed drops to this level it’s painful. Many pages just won’t load. Others do but take up to a minute. I’ve seen pages load with no CSS, no images, content jumping all over the place and API requests timing out.
Those of us that build the web, myself included, need to do better.
This post is part of a series of posts in which I write and publish a blog post every day throughout November 2021. There are no constraints on the project and the posts don’t neccissarliy have any connection to each other.
